Sand and bags available throughout the Shuswap

Wednesday, May 27, 2020

The Shuswap Emergency Program has sand and bags available for residents who may be at risk of flooding.

Sand and bags are being made available to the public at 20 locations in the Shuswap area. Please see the map below for specific locations, details or any restrictions on availability.

A Flood Watch has been issued for the Salmon River. Due to rain and high temperatures expected in the coming days, there is the potential for a rapid rise in water levels for the Salmon River.

Water levels of Shuswap and Mara Lakes are continuing to rise. Residents living near these areas, especially if they are prone to flooding, should be monitoring lake levels to ensure they can take the appropriate actions to protect their property.

For accurate Shuswap Lake levels, please check Environment Canada's Water Level website for real-time data at the following link:

Residents are asked to respect social distancing procedures while filling and loading sandbags. Sand is being delivered into multiple piles in order to assist with distancing provisions. Please follow directions on the posted COVID-19 signage at these sites.

If you have questions regarding flooding or access to sand and bags, please contact the Shuswap Emergency Program at 250.833.3351.

Current information will be posted on the Shuswap Emergency Program's Facebook page, however, Facebook messages will not be monitored after regular business hours. The best place to receive assistance is by phone at the number above.
