The Columbia Shuswap Regional District (CSRD) is jumping onto the Rogers Hometown Hockey bandwagon for the upcoming celebrations in Salmon Arm on March 7 and 8.
The CSRD will be providing some logistical support to the event, which is taking place at Marine Park, at 750 Marine Park Drive, near the CSRD's Harbourfront Drive office.
"The CSRD is looking forward to seeing our office neighbourhood turned into Hockey Central for the weekend," says CSRD Board Chair and City of Salmon Arm Councillor Kevin Flynn. "We hope residents of the entire region will come down and enjoy the celebrations."
The two-day hockey festival begins on Saturday, March 7 at noon and concludes on Sunday afternoon following the Rogers Hometown Hockey outdoor viewing party. Hosts Ron MacLean and Tara Slone will be on-site in Salmon Arm for the festivities, and of course, the live broadcast of the NHL game between the Vegas Golden Knights and the Calgary Flames.
Saturday's events begin at Marine Park at noon and run until 6 PM, while Sunday's events begin at 11 AM and run until the end of the viewing party. The free, hockey-themed weekend includes: the opportunity to meet NHL alumni Kirk McLean and Robyn Regehr, games, live local music, prize giveaways, entertainment shows and other fun hockey activities. Refreshments will be available.
The Rogers Hometown Hockey Broadcast will also feature a historic salute to International Women's Day, featuring an all-female team production team, including play-by-play announcer Leah Hextall, game analyst Cassie Campbell-Pascall and rinkside reporter Christine Simpson. The broadcast will also feature an interview with tennis great Billie-Jean King.
Broadcast host Tara Slone will also be interviewing Salmon Arm natives Bev Smith, a Canadian and Women's Basketball Hall of Famer, and Curtis Lazar of the Buffalo Sabres.
