July 21 2021 SEP Evacuation Alert Update

BC Wildfire has updated the size of the Two Mile Creek fire to 400 hectares.

The Two Mile Creek Fire is estimated to be 130 hectares in size. There are 33 personnel on site today working with ten pieces of heavy equipment to build a guard around the fire. With today's winds, it is predicted that the fire will continue to burn in an east and northeast direction, uphill and away from the District of Sicamous. There are no changes to the evacuation order or alert area at this time.

We have been receiving many inquiries about the current state of the Two Mile Creek fire.

BC Wildfire is optimistic regarding the current conditions. The winds are favourable and the fire is moving northeast and upslope, away from the community.

Firefighters are all actively fighting the fire at Two Mile Creek and there are no changes to the most recent orders and alerts. There are no expected changes on the alert status for at least the next 24 hours.

Staff update the CSRD website and social media accounts as information becomes available.

As of July 21, BC Wildfire, District of Sicamous, Malakwa and Swansea Point firefighters are all actively fighting the fire at Two Mile Creek. The fire is currently out of control but crews have been working through the night.

An Evacuation ORDER remains in place for approximately 300 properties, affecting approximately 1,000 people in the District of Sicamous and area. An Evacuation Alert covers much of the rest of the district.

There is currently no risk to any properties in the Swansea Point Area.

Highway 97A remains closed south of Sicamous near Mara. The Trans-Canada Highway remains open.

Residents and any remaining visitors need to be prepared for evacuation on short notice.
