[ARCHIVED] Gas leak forces evacuation of Gardom Lake residents

Fire crews on scene of a gas leak in Gardom Lake.

A total of 11 homes in the area of Gardom Lake Road and Capri Road in Electoral Area D have been tactically evacuated following a gas leak on Saturday, September 10.

The Ranchero-Deep Creek Fire Department is on scene with Fortis BC, who are working to drain the remaining gas in the line before residents are permitted to return home. The fire department responded to the call at approximately 10:30 AM.

Gardom Lake Road and Capri Road have been closed to access due to the hazard.

The evacuation and road closure are likely to continue into the afternoon.

The gas line was ruptured during construction activity in the area. There have been no injuries reported and all residents are safe.

The public is asked to stay away from the area and listen to the direction of emergency personnel on site.

We will update with more information, as available.
