[ARCHIVED] Update: Shuswap wildfire situation holding steady

An aerial view of Mt Grice-Hutchinson Fire

The Mt. Grice-Hutchinson wildfire has now been classified by the BC Wildfire Service as under control and an evacuation alert in place for five boat-in only cabins has been lifted as of 11:30 AM, Monday, August 22.

While the fire is not completely extinguished, BC Wildfire crews have created a 50-foot, wet-line fire guard around the fire and have now made good progress on the creation of another 100-foot, wet-line guard to create a containment area.

A firefighting staff of 30 crew members is on-site conducting the mop-up effort today, Monday, August 22. Their work is being assisted by two helicopters.

A Structure Protection Team that was using a mass sprinkler system to reduce the risk to the cabins will be pulled out of the site later today. One cabin was destroyed by fire in the initial stages of the blaze.

There are four other small wildfires active in the Shuswap Emergency Program’s area. Two of these are small spot fires listed as being held in the Humamilt Lake and Perry River area north. An additional 1.5-hectare, high-elevation fire in the Perry River area is listed as out of control. One small spot fire near McNomee Creek north of Seymour Arm is listed as under control.
