Access mat improves accessibility to Mara Lake

An access mat to help with accessibility to Mara Lake at Cambridge Road Park

It's not a red carpet, but for those with mobility challenges, the new blue access mat at Cambridge Road Community Park will allow for easier access to Mara Lake.

The Columbia Shuswap Regional District (CSRD)  has installed this access mat to assist with accessing the beach area on soft ground.

The mat is made from a lightweight, durable, non-slip polyester and is designed for pedestrian use and for people with mobility aids or wheelchairs.

Signage explaining the use of the mat will be installed shortly.

Cambridge Road Community Park is located at 719 Swanbeach Road, Swansea Point in Electoral Area E.

The CSRD Parks Department has installed this first mat as a pilot project and will be monitoring its use. If successful, these types of access mats could be installed in additional CSRD parks in the future.
