The Columbia Shuswap Regional District (CSRD) Board of Directors recently approved a contribution of $250,000 from the Electoral Area A Community Works Fund for construction and engineering costs of the proposed Indoor Aquatic Centre in Golden.
The funding allocation is contingent on the approval of the voters in Electoral Area A and the Town of Golden in the October 15, 2022, referendum on the project.
The CSRD has applied for a $6 million Canada Community Building Fund grant to go towards the project. Part of the grant application is the expectation that local governments with Community Works Funds available will provide funding support.
This $250,000 contribution may enhance the CSRD’s chances in successfully obtaining these grant funds.
The proposed Indoor Aquatic Centre facility would include a six-lane 25m lap pool, a separated leisure pool, lazy river, tots’ area, hot tub, sauna, steam room, multi-purpose room and a large lobby space intended as a community hub.
The estimated cost of the facility is $35 million, with a $17 million fundraising campaign underway. With this new funding pledge, the CSRD has now pledged a total of $1.72 million towards the indoor aquatic centre project.
The referendum will seek approval of the electors for the remaining $18 million.
