Tire Stewardship Program funds arena flooring replacement

The worn out flooring in the lobby of the golden and District Arena

The Golden and District Arena is going green with new flooring thanks to a grant from Tire Stewardship BC.

The arena will begin replacing its worn-out flooring with recycled rubber flooring tiles made from approximately 182 commercial vehicle tires beginning Monday, August 8, 2022.

The flooring in the lobby and washrooms was worn and in need of replacement, so the Columbia Shuswap Regional District (CSRD) applied for funding for its replacement through Tire Stewardship of BC program.

The program awarded the CSRD a grant of $13,683 for the supply and installation of the flooring tiles, which are made of 3,289 kilograms of recycled rubber from British Columbia.

The removal of the old flooring and installation is scheduled to take approximately five days and should be completed by the end of the day on Friday, August 12, 2022.
