[ARCHIVED] Update - Seymour Arm Evacuation - July 19

Heavy Equipment On Dirt Road

Monday, July 19, 2021

17:15 Hours

The BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) has begun actively working on the Hunakwa Lake Fire and heavy machinery has arrived to construct a fire guard near the community.

BCWS continues to work with other agencies and private industry on plans to widen existing roads and natural fire-break areas to create this guard.

The Hunakwa Lake Fire remains slow growing, however, the most recent aerial survey was largely blocked by dense smoke. BC Wildfire continues to estimate the fire size at 1,100 hectares.

The community of Seymour Arm remains on Evacuation Alert. This will continue until further notice. Residents and visitors should still be prepared for evacuation on short notice.

The CSRD has fire crews in Seymour Arm to assist with fire protection, as well as a Structural Protection Unit, which has been placing water sprinkling systems to protect infrastructure.

All Seymour Arm residents are reminded to keep all their emergency preparations in place and continue to monitor the CSRD website, the Shuswap Emergency Program's (SEP) webpage, the Shuswap Emergency on Facebook and Twitter, the CSRD's Facebook, Twitter platforms or local news sources for up-to-date and accurate information.
