[ARCHIVED] Update - Fire Situation - August 12 - 19:30 Hours

Thursday, August 12, 2021

19:30 Hours

White Rock Lake Fire

Please note: this update is specifically directed at the areas of the fire affecting the Columbia Shuswap Regional District (CSRD). A number of Evacuation Alerts and Orders changed today in many of the local government jurisdictions. For the best information specific to your area, please check the websites and social media feeds for that local government.

At 1500 Hours, the CSRD expanded its Evacuation Alert area to include all addresses located south of Highway 97 within the south-east corner of CSRD Electoral Area D. This affects approximately 56 residences.

Public Notice - White Rock Lake Fire - Evacuation Order Alert Map

  • Residents on Evacuation Alert need to be prepared to leave their homes on short notice, and should remain vigilant about staying informed on the situation. Regularly monitor the CSRD website, the Shuswap Emergency Program's (SEP) webpage, the Shuswap Emergency on Facebook and Twitter, the CSRD's Facebook, Twitter platforms or local news sources for up-to-date and accurate information. Or sign up for Alertable, the CSRD's new emergency mass notification system.
  • The latest estimate size of the fire is 58,000 hectares.
  • BC Wildfire Service continues to observe increasing fire activity across the entire fire area. Higher temperatures and increasing winds continue to challenge fire suppression efforts.

Two Mile Fire

  • With continued winds and heat, active fire behaviour is expected this evening. More smoke may be visible from both the Sicamous and Malakwa areas.
  • Most of the growth on the fire is in the north-east corner, which is away from the Communities of Sicamous and Swansea Point.
  • Mara Lake remains open to boats, however, boaters should use caution and stay out of the path of any aircraft working the fire. Recreational boaters or people using other watercraft who try to get a close-up look at these aircraft present a serious safety risk for air crews and anyone else in the area.

Hunakwa Lake Fire

  • BCWS is reporting this fire held yesterday despite the weather conditions. There was increased fire behaviour observed in the south in the vicinity of Hunakwa Lake.
  • Active fire behaviour is expected to continue.

Crazy Creek Gorge Fire

  • Crews worked overnight to monitor and conduct small-scale ignitions to Queest Village to help secure the area. Structure protection personnel also worked overnight to monitor equipment setup on structures.
  • The fire did spot over in two areas over the 2420 road during the night.
