[ARCHIVED] Update - Fire Situation - August 25 - 16:00 Hours

Facebook Fire Update August 25

Wednesday, August 25, 2021

16 Hours

White Rock Lake Fire (81,300 hectares)

  • Please note this update is providing information directly related to areas of the CSRD impacted by the White Rock Lake Fire. For information on other affected communities, please see the BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) or the website of the local government for that particular area.
  • A successful small-scale planned ignition was carried out yesterday involving 350 hectares along the northeastern flank of the fire, which is the section most affecting properties in the Falkland area of the CSRD.
  • This ignition was a step towards a large-scale planned ignition set to occur for the northeastern flank in the coming week. Wind conditions were not favourable to conduct that ignition today.
  • Once weather conditions allow, BC Wildfire Service will be advising the public as to when the ignition will proceed.
  • There continues to be no growth along all fire perimeters of the northern finger, located north of Highway 97.

Shuswap Complex Fires

The fire risk for the Shuswap has been greatly diminished as crews have been able to take advantage of cooler temperatures and to increase fire containment on all fires.

Crazy Creek Gorge Fire

  • This fire will be reclassified by BCWS from "Out of Control" to "Being Held" status. It is also being removed as a Fire of Note from the BCWS dashboard.

Two Mile Fire

  • Danger tree falling efforts will continue in the areas affected by the fire.
  • BCWS will be demobilizing gear from areas of the fire where it is no longer needed.

Due to the improved fire situation and reduced risk to any CSRD residents, this report will no longer include daily updates on the Shuswap Complex fires (Two Mile, Crazy Creek Gorge FSR, Momich, Hunakwa and Three Valley Lake) unless the situation changes significantly. Information will still be available through the BC Wildfire Service public information.
