The CSRD and the Shuswap Emergency Program are celebrating the rescinding of all Evacuation Orders and Alerts in the regional district area following the challenging wildfire season of 2021.
While the Shuswap area did not see any structural losses due to the wildfires, our hearts go out to the residents of our neighbouring areas whose homes or buildings were destroyed or damaged.
The CSRD had seven different major fires which required evacuation orders or alerts starting in early July until now.
It has been a tough, anxiety-ridden time for many of our residents and we wish to thank everyone for their patience, kindness and understanding. Citizens of the Shuswap pulled together, supported each other, and pitched in wherever they could − working tirelessly to make the best of difficult situations.
We want to thank all those who offered their support and encouragement to the BC Wildfire teams and fire crews, our local CSRD firefighters and their municipal counterparts, the hard-working volunteers with our Emergency Support Services Program, those working in the Emergency Operations Centre and all other emergency personnel. The messages of gratitude from the public were truly appreciated.
