Citizens of Electoral Area E (Rural Sicamous, Swansea Point and Malakwa) will have an opportunity to provide feedback to the Columbia Shuswap Regional District (CSRD) about the proposed Electoral Area E Official Community Plan and Zoning Bylaw next month.
At the April 15, 2021 Regular Board Meetings, Directors gave second reading to the Electoral Area E Official Community Plan (OCP) Bylaw and first reading to the Electoral Area E Zoning Bylaw. The new OCP and zoning bylaw will replace the land-use policies and regulations for the area currently covered by Rural Sicamous Land Use Bylaw Number 2000 and will introduce new policies and regulations for the remainder of Electoral Area E
An OCP is the primary tool that guides future development and serves as the foundation for all policies, regulations and decisions about land use and development. It also outlines directions for the area's economic, environmental and social well-being, considers transportation and the provision of community amenities and services.
The CSRD will be kicking off a two-month public engagement period to gather public input in early May. It will include a survey, online educational webpage, a virtual open house and recorded video. This will allow for the community to share their thoughts, so the OCP and Zoning Bylaw can be refined before the bylaws come back to the Board for further readings.
In the meantime, the CSRD has a number of background resources available for anyone interested in the process.
