Columbia Shuswap Regional District (CSRD) fire departments throughout the region are looking for new recruits to join the fire departments and help contribute to the safety and security of their community and its residents. Certain participation levels are necessary to keep fire halls running safely and smoothly. New recruits are especially needed in the areas of Eagle Bay, Silver Creek, Malakwa, and the areas served by the Shuswap Fire Department, which includes Blind Bay and Sorrento.
Check out the video below for a sample of what being a CSRD firefighter means:
Basic requirements include:
- A Valid Driver's License (minimum);
- Minimum 18 years of age;
- Physically able to perform tasks and duties of the job;
- Able to commit to training;
- Living and/or working in the response area.
CSRD firefighters generally train once per week at their respective fire halls and have some additional training requirements to fulfill as new recruits. COVID-19 has meant some changes to regular training routines, some portions of which have switched to an online format. There are also many other opportunities for additional training to enhance a firefighter's knowledge and abilities.
The CSRD has more information made available on its firefighter recruitment page.
For more information visit the firefighter recruitment page on becoming a paid-on-call firefighter at one of the 13 CSRD fire departments around the region, email or contact Sean Coubrough, CSRD Fire Services Coordinator at 250-833-5955.
