Shuswap North Okanagan Rail Trail update

Splatsin workers using heavy equipment to help build the rail trail.

Splatsin Development Corporation (SDC) has been working hard on preparing the Shuswap Okanagan Rail Trail for construction.

Currently, the Yucwmenlúcwu (Caretakers of the Land) LLP Construction division is working closely with the Regional District of North Okanagan (RDNO) and the Columbia Shuswap Regional District (CSRD) to ensure that Trail conditions are safe for development.

This includes culvert and bridge maintenance work in advance of the high-water season to ensure that flooding will be avoided. In addition, the team has been conducting high water patrol due to the current streamflow advisory for the area.

SDC is in the process of training Splatsin Band Members in the use of heavy equipment and is excited to work with many enthusiastic Members who want to be a part of the Construction division and contribute to the development of the Rail Trail.

The company plans to build capacity with Band Members and to provide ongoing training and experience so they may work in other departments and on bigger machines.
