One of the things that links residents of the Columbia Shuswap Regional District (CSRD) together is the Canadian Pacific (CP) Railway, which runs through the region from Field to the North Shuswap.
In December, there's usually a very special Holiday Train that brings celebration and a huge boost of donations to local food banks all across the CSRD.
For the second year in a row, the COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in a shift to a virtual event.
The CSRD is getting on board by encouraging its residents to support the 2021 CP Rail "Holiday Train at Home" concert.
Canadian Music Hall-of-Famer Steven Page and The Strumbellas will lead an all-star cast of performers aboard the CP Holiday Train for the concert.
The concert will be streamed on CP Rail's Facebook, YouTube and the CP Rail website on Saturday, December 18, at 5 pm PT / 6 pm MT.
The event will raise money and awareness and help local food banks collect much-needed donations.
The concert, scheduled for 5 pm. PT and 6 pm. MT will also feature performances from special guests The Trews, Sierra Noble, Odds, Tanika Charles, Aysanabee and Keb' Mo'. CP Holiday Train fans will be able to view the concert by visiting the CP Facebook page at the show's start time. An archived version of the show will remain on the page for later viewing.
CP's 2021 corporate donation will bring the total amount of money raised at CP Holiday Train stops to $20.64 million since the train's inception in 1999. Food banks have also collected 4.9 million pounds of food donations at local Holiday Train events.
