Columbia Shuswap Regional Hospital District

The Columbia Shuswap Regional Hospital District (CSRHD) boundaries are contiguous with that of Columbia Shuswap Regional District. The CSRHD is often referred to as the “old” Hospital District, as it was discontinued as an operational Hospital District when the Health regions were restructured in 1996. However, prior to 1996, the CSRHD often borrowed funds to finance construction projects or equipment, as a funding partner for Health Facilities within the Regional District boundaries. CSRHD must continue to exist until the debt that was unpaid at 1996 is fully repaid by the same constituents that existed at the time of borrowing.

The CSRHD will be dissolved at the end of 2013, as the debt held by this Hospital District will be fully repaid.

North Okanagan Columbia Shuswap Regional Hospital District

Upon the restructuring, the eastern portion (Golden and Area A) of the CSRHD joined the Kootenay East Regional Hospital District; the North Shuswap joined the Thompson Regional Hospital District, and the remaining areas formed a part of the newly created North Okanagan Columbia Shuswap Regional Hospital District. This new Hospital District is administered out of the Columbia Shuswap Regional District office in Salmon Arm, BC.

Hospital Districts exist to borrow funds and finance construction projects or equipment purchases at facilities within the Hospital District boundaries.
