In 2008 the Shuswap Lake and Foreshore Mapping project was completed. This project was used to create a series of Orthophotos of the lake for use in GIS and Development Services. These photos are now approximately four years old and much has changed on the lake since then. To better understand the changes on the lake, and to obtain current base-line information for land use planning and bylaw enforcement purposes (e.g. Lakes Zoning Bylaw No. 900, North Shuswap OCP, South Shuswap OCP, Area 'E' OCP), a new set of Orthophotos is needed.
This project will create a foreshore inventory of Shuswap Lake and its watershed using video and photo with gps technology. The flight path will follow the 300+ kms of Shuswap and Mara Lake shoreline, cataloguing the various environmental (such as milfoil, sensitive habitat, etc.) and land use features (such as already existing or occurring development, docks/buoys) via the on-board gps cameras.
The photos were taken in the fall of 2013 and are currently being analyzed.
